While Montclair Counseling Center is noted for its exceptional outpatient mental health services, we are also a very strong community presence. Our goals are the advancement of public education, and the understanding and appreciation of social, emotional/mental health and its connection to self-esteem and empowerment. Many outreach initiatives are low-cost or free of charge and we are very grateful for the donations and grants that enable us to offer these programs.
Over the past several years, Montclair Counseling Center has sponsored initiatives such as:
Family Connections Project
A coordinated effort with the Montclair Police Dept. and Montclair High School to help identified youth and their families learn more about self-control and self-regulation.
Family Life Programs and School-based initiatives that include:
- low-cost therapy for youth and family
- free school-based group counseling for elementary to high school-aged children
- mental health support groups
- social skills training for younger students
- child development workshops for parents/caregivers
- free educational seminars for school guidance counselors and child study team professionals, covering topics such as:
- bullying
- sexual orientation
- self-mutilation
- trauma in the schools
- self-esteem building for youth with Asperger's Syndrome
- special social skills group for children with varying degrees of autism and Asperger's Syndrome
- Ethel's Group, which provides support and counseling for Montclair High School teens who have lost parents and caregivers
Anti-Violence, Anti-Bullying Program
A multi-faceted initiative for the elementary school community, the work also incorporates social skills training for students, as well as components for teachers and parents. Families who need additional attention receive onsite counseling.
Montclair Counseling Center is also a partner with the Health and Wellness Partnership (HWP) of the Montclair Public School System. Our clinicians have participated in many partnership seminars, such as MegaSkills and Let's Talk (about drugs, alcohol and tobacco).
It is only through the caring generosity of private individuals and community organizations that the Center is able to continue its outreach commitment. We thank them for their steadfast support.
